Unblock your creativity
Attention spans are shrinking. Distractions are being thrown at us from all angles. It's never been harder to create. Technology and social media have made it easier and more accessible to make and share things. But, a lot of us are too distracted to leverage it (myself included).
My creativity has been blocked ever since I got my first phone and Facebook account. I've been in a mode of constant consumption and my attention span has been slowly deteriorating. I finally began to wake up when I started meditating a few years ago. And it helped me realize that I need to work on my mind, focus, and creative output.
I had a huge breakthrough seven months ago when I listened to a Tim Ferris podcast. He was talking about how he does "Morning Pages." Essentially, this practice consists of writing three full pages, in the morning, completely unorganized and stream of consciousness. What triggered me to actually try it was the promise of unblocking my creativity, increasing my ability to focus, and discovering my natural inclinations.
I have now been doing the Morning Pages for 6 months, without missing a day, and it's wild to reflect and notice the writing I am doing now. Words are starting to fly off my fingers. I know my writing isn't great yet, as I am still a beginner. But the long-term journey of doing this every day for decades brings me so much excitement and hope.
Not only that, it's also benefiting me in a ton of other areas. I'm able to articulate myself better when I speak. More ideas are coming to me. And I'm able to focus and fall into flow states more often. I strongly believe that in the AI-driven world, creativity and focus will be the most important skills to succeed.
Needless to say, the morning pages and starting a writing practice have been a game changer for me. I’ve tried all sorts of self-improvement hacks, and this is the best one I’ve ever come across. You should try it.
