Two types of failure.
There are two types of failure. The first type is the killer, which is failure by no attempt. If you never try, you build and carry resentment for yourself that will grow and eat at you.
The second type of failure is a result that doesn't meet expectations from yourself or from others. This type of failure is short-term and not final. We have unlimited attempts at almost anything, even if it doesn't seem like it.
You should try to have as many second types of failures as you can. The lessons from failure far outweigh any reputation damage. Even if you think you've completely embarrassed yourself. You haven't. Everyone is so wrapped up in their own worlds, and they don't really care about what you've shared, launched, or lost. They will quickly forget and move on to their own internal dialogue. Realizing this should bring a sense of liberation to just go for it.
What you get with the second type of failure is an immense amount of data. If you want to move fast, the best thing to do is to speed up cycles between idea and attempt. When you have a long term mission, the feedback you get is as good as gold.
The more you try, fail, and repeat. The more you begin to detach from how others view your work. All that you begin to care about is making it the best it can be for the sake of the work itself. I struggle to find anything more beautiful than this.
