Show up

When you have goals that you are working towards, consistency is key. It's the most important factor in achieving them. The person who shows up day in and day out is impossible to beat. Consistency increases your skillset, ideas, and surface area for luck.

But why is it so hard to be consistent? Why do we quit so quickly and move from thing to thing? For me, I get into trouble when I view outcomes as linear and expect immediate results. When we don’t see an immediate result from our efforts, we become uncertain. We think we might be wasting our time, and just like that, a new shiny object appears. One missed day turns into a missed week, and then we are on to the next thing. It’s a vicious cycle that keeps repeating.

Achieving anything worthwhile isn’t about instant gratification. It’s about embracing the journey, the grind, and the growth that comes with time. The hack that has helped me become more consistent is a shift in mindset—extending the time horizons. If I’m not willing to commit to something for at least five years, then I won’t do it. This mindset allows me to be patient with the process and frees me from expecting overnight results. The game then becomes about getting through the iterations so they can start compounding.

Consistency isn’t just about showing up. It’s about showing up with the right mindset. So, extend your time horizons and focus on becoming the person who never stops improving. You’ll find that the results will follow.
