Hard resets
It's so easy to get stuck going at one speed. Doing hard resets have never been more crucial. Do you remember computers from 5-10 years ago? If you didn't shut them down after a few days, then they would get super loud and crash. That's us.
Being overly stimulated is a vicious cycle. Doom scrolling turns into even more doom scrolling. Mind-numbing distractions turn into even more mind-numbing distractions. It gets harder and harder to escape the deeper you fall into it.
But how do you even unplug? Let me give you a few ideas. For starters, completely ignore your phone. Put it in a drawer for a day and don't look at it. You will feel anxious at the beginning. But as the day goes on, you will feel clear and free.
You need to allow yourself to do nothing. Embrace boredom. Let your mind process all the thoughts you've ignored. It's painful at first, but it's more than necessary. Think of your mind as an email inbox. If you don't read the messages or organize them, they pile up, and then you feel more and more behind. Filter through all the emails, and get caught up to inbox zero. You will feel lighter and new ideas will start racing through your mind.
Make time for a hard reset. Drop the phone. Sit and stare out the window. Pick up a book. Take a walk. Do something different, and clear out your mental inbox.
